This and That

I snapped this shot of the La Jolla Cove Suites, which looks over the bay, last week when picking up the Rock Star.  I thought the angles of the building against the sky, and the palm trees was so pretty.  Played with it a little in Photoshop to make it look like a painting and I'm just using it to fancy up this rather boring entry.

Let's see.......what is going on?

My Grandma Jessie has been moved to a "skilled nursing" facility, after the hospital decided she couldn't stay there if she wasn't able to participate in her physical therapy to recuperate from her broken leg/hip.  The thing is, she's just too weak to participate.  On top of everything, she's now got several bad bed sores and has about given up eating.

My Aunt and Uncle just had to pack up her little apartment where she was when she fell, which was an "Assisted Living" facility.   I doubt that she'll ever be strong enough to live in that environment again.  How I wish I could be in Oklahoma to take care of her at home, because I hate the thought of her receiving the type of "care" that Papa got in the 48 hours he managed to withstand at the "skilled nursing" place he was at, before he called me in the middle of the night begging me to come get him.  "NOW!"  he said.

I call my Aunt almost every day to see how Grandma's doing and it just doesn't sound good.  Last night while she was having dialysis, her blood pressure bottomed out and she just shook terribly the whole time she was on the machine.  Bless her heart, it's no wonder old people make up their minds to die.  It has to be awful to go through all of that. And for me..... I just dread the thought of losing another one of my family members so soon after Papa's death.

Ab had two doctor's appointments down the mountain yesterday so I took the day off to get her there.  Going into work on a Tuesday after a 3 day weekend is so nice because you work a day and then all of a sudden, it's Wednesday and the week is half over!  As I approach retirement, I really like those reduced work weeks!

This past Sunday a friend and I headed north to an Indian Casino near Yosemite.  It rivals what you'd find in Las Vegas and it's half the distance.  Valet parking and everything!  The quarter slots were kind to me for the earliest part of the day, giving me enough small jackpots to play on for several hours.

At one point I parlayed my $89.50 winnings into $350.00 by playing the dollar slots for a bit!  I hit a $250. 00 jackpot, gave my friend a hundred bucks and we played every bit of it away the rest of the afternoon!   Easy come, easy go. Yeah right!  Drat!  Thankfully, that's not something I do very often!

Picked up a bargain priced hard copy ($5.98/cheaper than paperback) of a new book that I had been wanting to read for sometime, at Barnes and Nobles yesterday.......The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters, by Elisabeth Robinson.  It's light, funny and a sometimes tearful story about Hollywood and a terminal illness, written in the entertaining and endearing style of our own Lotus Martini journalist!   I am enjoying it thoroughly and highly recommend it.

Speaking of enjoyment, we have a new Sonic Drive-In here in town and tonight I chowed down on a double chili cheeseburger and a diet cherry limeaide which was outstanding.  Mmmmmm!   I am still trying to be faithful to my low carb diet and removed half the bun.  Heavenly!

:)

  1. Sorry to hear about Grandma Jessie :(  She doesn't sound like she's doing too well.  It's hard not to be around when someone you love is so sick.

I dunno, Lisa...mentioning a doulbe chili cheeseburger and the word "diet" in the same sentence seems like a little bit of cognitive dissonance...  LOL!  Lisa  :-]

  3. Hey!  Where have you been, girl?  I'm missing your writing.  The world is all out of whack without my usual dose.  Hope you're alright.  Wendy

That book sounds positively dee-lightful ! ;D  (And thanks for the link AND the compliment!)

I'm so sorry about Grandma Jessie ~ I know how hard this can be.  I wish the best for both of you.
