Life? For Bill-continued

When it was time for Bill to be placed back in the bed, he'd scream in agony, saying "It hurts! I hurt! You are hurting me! Help me! Help me! They are hurting me!" As it was quite a project to get Bill back into his bed and comfortable, Bill repeated those phrases continually until I wanted to yell at the staff, "STOP!!!!"

By that point I was crying softly, and feeling Bill's pain as I sat next to Papa just a foot or so from his bed.

After Bill was back in his bed, he'd ask for pain medication and the staff told him they'd tell his nurse.

No medication was ever brought and soon Bill would be back to sleep. I prayed that his pain had subsided, since he wasn't getting his meds as requested.

After a short nap, Bill woke up and again began yelling, "Help ME!" over and over. He didn't get a response from any staff, so I decided to help.

I said, "Sir, do you need something?" He said, "I messed my pants and I need someone to wipe my bottom!" I told him that I'd go tell his nurse and I informed the staff at the nurse's station. They politely thanked me and I headed back to the room that Bill shared with Papa.

I told Bill that I'd informed the nurses about his situation and he said "Thank You" without further comment. I continued to visit with Papa, and before long I could hear Bill's slight snoring and knew he was sleeping again.
