Ab's Spanish Class Report

Just like her mama, Ab is a dyed in the wool procrastinator.

Personally, I do my best work when I am under pressure. But, Ab’s not quite there yet.

When Papa picked her up from school yesterday, her teacher informed him that she had a report on a Spanish speaking country due the next day. Swell. That’s almost as stressful to me as the science project that "we" finished at the very last possible moment the other day.

I decided to stay out of this one. Besides, Ab already had plans to go shopping with her sister, and she’d just have to suffer the consequences of either not submitting a quality paper, or not getting it finished at all. I was not going to get myself all worked up about her waiting until the last minute…..again.

So, after getting home about 9 pm, she started her research on her country of choice; Cuba. Instead of offering to type the report as she composed it, I went to bed. Deal with it sis!

This morning I found that she’d printed lots of information gleaned from the internet, and that she’d typed her own "report" that barely managed to make a paragraph. Well, the teacher said it only had to be one page. One page it was!

Tonight at dinner, I asked her about school and if she had completed her assignment. She proudly informed me that she had finished her Cuba report, and had to do a verbal presentation to the Spanish class.

I mentioned that I had reviewed her report this morning and found it to be somewhat "brief." She laughed and said that hers was not the worst report in class. In fact, she said "Trevor’s was much worse!"

"Oh really, why?" I asked.

Ab said, "Well, he had picked Boliva as his country, but he ended up reporting on MONGOLIA!"

"He’s soooo blond!" she laughed!

Close….but no Cuban cigar!

(I imagine there are a few Spanish speaking people in Mongolia!)

  1. Good for you, Lisa.  I think you were hoping for a little wake-up call for her, which didn't happen, I guess.  Makes you wonder just what they call "acceptable" work in school these days.  :-]

  2. I hate that my kids wait til the last minute.  It drives me batty!  This week I can actually say that Meagan finished drafting her report that was due today (Fri) on Wed. and just needed my help putting pictures on it from the computer.  She did really good!  Kristi
