Ab is sitting on the floor, trying to remove a gauze bandage that covers a wound that goes from the tip of her twelve year old ankle, to her upper thigh. And, it's s-t-u-c-k to the wound.
OUCH!!!
I told her not to bandage it that way. Think she'd listen? Tonight at dinner, I told her that some day, her children would think she is just as dumb as she thinks we are right now.
Anyway, she's got a serious case of road burn from a bicycle mishap the other day, that she probably got while showing off for the new neighbor boy, named Kyle.
(I figure it's Kyle because he's been mentioned so many times lately. "Mom, Do you know who Kyle is?" "Kyle was riding the bike when you picked me up" "Kyle's brother Tanner.......")
Of course, to hear her tell it, I don't have a clue as to how much her skinned up leg hurts, and my idea that it would feel much better if she soaked the bandage off in the tub is just so sssstuupiddd! "Because THAT would hurt!"
You would think that I never, ever had a scrape or scratch, (since she can't imagine that her mom was ever a kid) or tended to one in my mothering career.
If she doesn't keel over from infection before this is healed, it won't be for lack of trying. Since I wasn't home when it happened, I am not sure if a drop of soap or water came near it, let alone something like peroxide or betadine!
Although she did say she "cleaned it!" But, her idea of clean, and my idea of clean are on opposite ends of the white glove spectrum.
Oh my gosh, I hear the water running! Could it be that she actually got in the shower and let water come near that wound?
When she's all finished, I am going to tell her that I am so glad that she thought of that!
I will let her think it was all her idea. ::big grin::

There ya go! Of course, you're walking the line between being a pesky, over-protective Mom and risking seeing your daughter get tetanus, but I'm sure her logic will prevail. My husband is the same way and never washes cuts & wounds. How many pics of flesh-eating bacteria do they need to see before the soap & water thing soaks in? ¤Holly
ReplyDeleteYeah, wish her kids that will be just like her. She is going to rue the day she crossed you. <wink>
ReplyDeleteI hope her scrape isn't serious & heals well.
LoL Yeah, it's funny, isn't it? When I was a kid, I thought my parents had NO idea what they were talking about. Now, I call them for advice. Soaking the bandage would work best. No tugging, it just falls away. Also, consider taking her to the doctor - if you haven't already. Road Rash can scar really badly and they have some stuff now that can help heal it much faster and keep it wet while it heals, which is ultimately better than "letting it dry out".
ReplyDeleteThat said, poor thing. LOL Can't help but feel sorry for her. Those HURT! :(
I have a daughter the same age. We should start a sssstuupiddd mom's club. Does she do that rolling her eyes to the back of her head thing too!? :o) I hope her wound heals inspite of herself! Wendy
ReplyDeleteHope the wound heals fast!
