His Resting Place

Today, in a private ceremony for immediate family, we will place Papa's beautiful silver urn, this crucifix from my cousin Larry and this beaded feather, in his temporary resting place, which is a "niche" in our local cemetary.  After the new National Veteran's Cemetary is completed nearby, we will move his ashes there.

The urn in the lower right corner is a miniature version of the one containing most of Papa's cremains.  This small urn will remain with Ab and I on my fireplace.

We have an additional small urn with some of his ashes that we will take to Oklahoma and bury in the cemetary in his hometown, within the next year or so.  We didn't think of that until we made the final arrangements, but I really think he'd like the idea.  My Grandmother and Aunt Mary were going to take the little urn with them tomorrow when they return home, but I checked with the Transportation Safety Administration and they said that some metals can't be examined through the x-ray machine.  We won't chance it, so we'll mail the Oklahoma ashes later.

I must now find an appropriate prayer for our service today, so I will close for now.
