John Scalzi, from By the Way, is kind of the AOL Journal Land teacher. He gave us a writing assignment this week, and here's mine.
Twenty-Five Things about Me......
We lived in Long Beach, California when I was a little girl and Id call all the sailors "Popeyes!"
I really hate liver and will NOT eat it. The smell even makes me sick. My mother used to make me eat it. I thought that and chinese food was a form of child abuse.
I sucked my thumb and rubbed the top of my nose at the same time, until I was 12 years old. My family tried everything to get me to stop, including hot sauce, shame and bandages. It didnt help and I quit when I was darn good and ready.
That same thumb was the one that I stuck in the wringers of the washing machine, just after my mom told me not to touch it. I can remember the huge scab that covered my poor, sore thumb for weeks. I still have that scar and people often think its from a burn.
On my left wrist, right in line with my ring finger, is a little heart shaped scar that I got from rug burn, when I fell down the stairs, head first, a few years ago. I like to think that the scar over the ring finger means I am going to find my perfect love and marry him one of these days.
As a kid, I was so tall and skinny, with l-o-n-g legs, that I could put both of my legs behind my head, while sitting on my fanny!
One time, when I was about 10, we stopped for hamburgers at McDonalds before going to my grandmas to visit. When we arrived, she asked if wed eaten and we told her that wed just had McDonalds, she said that their hamburgers were made from horse meat. I LOVED HORSES and I promptly threw up!
One of the things that I want to do in life is to go horseback riding on the beach. I had the opportunity when we took a cruise to Mexico last year, but it was about $100 a person and I couldnt see spending that kind of money for a short time on a horse.
I used to be fluent in Spanish when I was a kid. No habla anymore. I would love to go into a spanish language immersion program and get it back and keep it this time.
My best friend from childhood, Cindi, and I competed for May Day Queen or Princess, or something like that when we were about 8 years old, I think. She won, I was devastated. I don't think I ever told Cindi or anyone about that.
Jerry Lewis, 007 and Disney movies are the ones that I remember seeing in theaters and drive-ins when I was a youngster.
My first exposure to country music was from Cindis mom, and I loved the song, "Im the Happiest Girl in the U-S of A"!
The song that reminds me of my mother is Mack the Knife as she listened to it over and over and over again, since she was only 17 when I was born.
I was conceived in the back seat of a 1947 Ford and my father gave me the pink slip a few years ago. Wish I had the car!
I was born in an "unwed mothers home" in Los Angeles.
She gave me up for adoption, then took me back before it was finalized. I was about 5 months old and my adoptive parents cried all the way up the driveway when they returned me to my birthmother.
I think she should have left well enough alone, but I wouldnt change my life and what I went through for anything at this point.
We sent Jackie Kennedy a sympathy card when President Kennedy was assassinated. I still have her thank you card.
My oldest daughter shares the same birthdate as President Reagan. She sent him a dollar of her birthday money one year to help with the Federal deficit, in a birthday card. She also invited him to dinner, "if he happened to be in our area!" He didnt accept the money, or the invitation, but wrote her a nice letter, which we framed.
I am left handed, when it comes to eating and writing, but do most other things right hand, including cutting with scissors.
I knew that I wanted to be a police officer and a cowgirl from the earliest days of my memory. I work in law enforcement. I shoulda been a cowgirl.
My favorite colors are
I tend to dress in "warm" colors. I look best in red, or so I'm told.
A diagnosis of depression has made me way more understanding of mental illness.
I showed dogs as a child in the AKC Junior Handler division, since our family raised collies.

Very interesting list. I still have 1- 39 to do on mine, maybe one day I will get to it. Kristi
ReplyDeleteOh I love your list! I almost choked when I read how you used to suck your thumb and rub your nose, my little brother did the same thing for secven years. At one point he would hold silky materials on his nose to. That phase stopped when he came to the bus stop with one of my bras in his hand, against his nose

What a great list and a good idea by John! I'm the same way with lettuce as you are with liver! I want to throw up just by smelling it and having the tiniest of piecces in some of my food will make me push my plate away! You can definitely tell you're a romantic, the wanting to horseback on a beach. I've always wanted to do that too. It seems like it'd be so relaxing. I too look best in red, have been diagnosed with depression and have always wanted to do the AKC thing just for fun! Can you tell I enjoyed your list? LOL Thanks for the well wishes for April and the remaining pup.
