Thanksgiving Flake

Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s 12:30 pm, Thanksgiving Day and I just finished off a McDonald’s Mighty Kid’s Cheeseburger Meal. Had I not been stood up this morning by my own daughter, right about now I’d be pulling into my brother’s beautiful new home for a Thanksgiving feast that was to be served at 1:00 o’clock. I’m pissed.

On Tuesday evening we solidified our plans. We, as in the two of us, were going and she was going to drive, due to my cast and the length of the trip. She promised and I informed her that I expected her to keep her promise. Why would it be necessary to even express my concern that she might flake out on me, you ask. Like Papa always said….Past behavior is indicative of future behavior.

Last night, I visited with her and her boyfriend and reminded Tam of the departure time, bright and early around 11:00 and she rolled her eyes. The beautiful princess usually doesn’t do mornings. I said, "Don’t you dare flake out on me!" This morning I telephoned her house at 10:00 a.m. and left a message saying I was on schedule. The fact that she didn’t answer the telephone meant that she wasn’t out of bed yet. At 10:45, I left another message saying that I was dropping something off at a friends, and that I expected her to call me on my cellphone or be at the house at 11:00. Yeah, right.

By 11:30, I decided to try to make the trip by myself, since I hadn’t heard from Sleeping Beauty. The more I thought about her inconsiderate behavior, the madder I got. And, I decided that my frame of mind, along with my cast made me a greater risk as a driver in busy holiday traffic, so I called my family to apologize for my last minute cancellation. Fortunately, I’ll get to join some family friends for their meal at 3:00 pm, here in town.

I knew this would happen. I just can’t depend on her for much of anything. It’s sad, I know. I would be horrified if people ever thought that way about me.

It’s a good thing she doesn’t have children.

(Okay, an update.  She's sick, really sick.  Maybe I was a little hard on her! Plus, to add insult to injury, besides pissing off her Mom, when she called in sick to work for tomorrow, she got fired!  What a Thanksgiving!)

  2. Man, things are not supposed to be this way on of all holidays, Thanksgiving!! You have an open invitation to my house on this Holiday next year.  I have a crowd every year so one or 2 more won't be a big deal.  And the best part?  All you have to do is show up.  I do all the cooking!!  Kristi
