We had a fun, restful visit which included lots of laughter at the antics of Riley. At 2 years 2 months, she is very verbal and has an outstanding ability to reason. Her daddy said she recently surprised everyone with this comment...."I don't say shit anymore. Now I say Oh, MY GAWD!"
The last night of the visit she was extremely over-tired, so I offered to give her a massage on her tiny hands and feet. She decided that would be very nice! I don't know if she knew what she was in for, but she was a willing participant.
Her mommy got her ready for bed in her pretty purple jammies, and I got the lotion and lavendar massage. We all got real comfy on the sofa. I started with her feet and she was obviously enjoying the touch as I could see her start to relax. Then, I started on one arm and hand and she fell deeper in to her relaxed state.
Her mommy asked if she liked feet and hands being massaged....in a very soft toddler voice, with half shut eyes, Riley said..."Feels gooooood!"
We could tell that Riley was beginning to get sleepy, so I told Riley that she needed to "rest" the arm that I finished by letting it lay on her tummy! When ever it was necessary to talk after that, we whispered softly so the arm could "rest!" I whispered and told her to make sure that she let her feet rest quietly too, as I continued to massage her left forearm and hand. I could see her eyes getting heavy, then flutter open and then close as she finally gave in to the restful sleep that she so desperately needed. Her soft little arm went totally limp in my oily hand.
I "rested" her arm on her belly and her mommy and I watched her sleep peacefully, with smiles on our faces. Her daddy came and took his very relaxed little girl upstairs to bed.
Her Mommy, grateful for the end of a busy toddler's day said......"Oh, Thank you!"
Really, it was my pleasure! But I think Riley enjoyed it most of all!
